Podcasts and Digital Stories

Throughout this week I have listened to many podcasts and digital stories. At first I wasn’t for sure what these things were to be honest with you. That is when I decided to do a google search on them so I could become better familiar with them.

In the website https://www.telegraph.co.uk/radio/podcasts/what-is-a-podcast-and-where-can-i-find-the-best-ones-to-listen-t/ it says, “A podcast is an audio show, usually spread across a series of episodes, which can be downloaded from the Internet and listened to either on a computer or an Mp3 player. The term, which was coined in 2004, is portmanteau of ‘iPod’ and ‘broadcast’.”

In the website http://guides.library.stonybrook.edu/digital-storytelling it says, “Digital Stories are multimedia movies that combine photographs, video, animation, sound, music, text, and often a narrative voice. Digital stories may be used as an expressive medium within the classroom to integrate subject matter with extant knowledge and skills from across the curriculum. Students can work individually or collaboratively to produce their own digital stories. Once completed, these stories are easily be uploaded to the internet and can be made available to an international audience, depending on the topic and purpose of the project.”

In the middle of my research I found out the best podcasts to listen to which are: TEDTalks, RadioLab, StarTalk Radio, The College Info Geek Podcast, Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders, Back to Work, Founders Talk, Rationally Speaking, Social Triggers Insider, EPOP Travel, The Podcast History of Our World, and Stuff You Should Know. The information I found on digital storytelling is the different elements of it, which are: point of view, a dramatic question, emotional content, the gift of your voice, the power of the soundtrack, economy, and pacing.

In the website http://i-a-e.org/articles/46-feature-articles/50-digital-storytelling.html it says, “Digital storytelling takes many forms. There are stories that are audio only and rely on words, sound effects, field recordings, and music. Hypertext environments facilitates the interactive story in which the “reader” chooses optional paths to explore. Web-based media facilitate not only stories with words, but also movies, stills, sounds, and graphics.”
